Website Considerations - What you need to consider before you start.
Before you start your project with Studio Five, you should determine who your audience will be, what services/information you wish to make available to them and what it is that they require from your site (ie. what are their expectations when they access your website).
Allow a realistic timeframe for the building of the website. This must include your ability as the client, to provide all necessary information to Studio Five to allow the site's construction and to find the time to respond to Studio Five requests for details and/or appraisal of any work completed. The average turn-around for a website depends of course on the size and complexity involved, but preliminary drafts can be provided within 7 working days and small projects finalised within one month.
To assist Studio Five to create a website that is a reflection of your current business image, it is helpful if we can be provided with existing business brochures, business cards, logos etc.
To assist us in designing a website with a certain 'look & feel' that may be hard to describe, it can be helpful if you as the client, provide Studio Five with the URL of any existing website that you have seen on the Internet that has certain aspects (colours, shapes, buttons etc) that you would like to see on your website.
It is more efficient if Studio Five are provided with a single contact point within your business, to liaise with us during the construction period of the website.
The website being built belongs to you the client, and as such must meet all your needs and expectations. Studio Five expects constructive feedback to enable us to provide you with a product that you will be happy with. At all times of the construction process, Studio Five requires your comments (both positive and negative) to be able to correctly meet your needs.
It is important that your business website can be found by your clients, prospective clients and the general public. Studio Five will submit your website to a number of Search Engines using Keywords, Titles & Descriptions on each page.
To enable you to have your website up and running it needs to be hosted on a Web server. Hosting refers to the storing of your website on dedicated high speed hardware and software, to make it available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Hosting is provided by a number of companies at various rates which will require a one-off set-up cost and continuing monthly or annual payments. Studio Five can arrange for your website to be hosted if you wish, or can be arranged by yourself. Payment is the responsiblility of the client and Studio Five has no role in payments. You may also be able to have your website hosted by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) who may have reserved space on their servers to post your own website. This arrangement depends upon your ISP and the payment/plan that you have with them. It will also impact on the identifying address (URL) of your website. See Domain Name details below. Hosting also covers the provision of email addresses associated with your website.
The Domain name is your identity on the Internet that enables users to locate your website address. There are two basic ways to obtain an address for your site:
1. To obtain a specific address as we have (ie. www.studiofive.com.au) you must determine that the name you require is not currently reserved by another party, you reserve the name and make a subsequent yearly payment to maintain ownership of the selected address. Go to www.aunic.net for further information. Payment is the responsiblility of the client and Studio Five has no role in payments.
2. Most Internet Providers (ISP's) allow you to have space reserved on their servers to allow you to post your own website. The name of your site will be unique due to the combination of ISP name, plus your identiity, plus the site name. For example, if your ISP was Telstra Bigpond you would have a website address of http://users.bigpond/your name/your site name. If this facility is provided by your ISP it will be included as part of your monthly ISP cost.
